Frequently Asked Questions

How often are lawn treatments applied?

Most Bermuda lawn fertilization and weed control programs follow a seasonal schedule designed around Oklahoma growing conditions. Applications are spaced throughout the year to maintain turf health, prevent weeds, and support consistent turf density.

Newell Services structures treatments around a 7-visit seasonal framework, with visits typically spaced about 7 weeks apart during the active growing season.

Our plans utilize these visits differently depending on the level of turf management desired:

Improvement Plans
This plan utilizes all 7 visits of the season framework to effectively manage weeds and to deliver high performance lawn care to property owners who are used to leading the pack. This plan delivers year upon year improvement in your lawn.

Maintenance Plans
Utilizing 5 of the 7 visits of the seasonal framework, our maintenance plans are designed for clients who have completed a soil test and any recommended corrections AND who wish to only maintain their current lawn care level.

Program timing follows agronomic guidance suited for Oklahoma Bermuda lawns, with application intervals adjusted as needed based on seasonal growing conditions. All programs are designed and applied by a Certified Applicator specializing in Bermuda turf management for commercial, residential, and sports turf applications.

What type of grass do you treat?

Most lawns in this region are Bermuda grass. Our turf programs are designed specifically for Bermuda lawns and follow agronomic timing suited for Oklahoma’s warm-season growing conditions.

What weeds do your programs control?

Programs are designed to prevent and control common Oklahoma lawn weeds including crabgrass, spurge, henbit, clover, foxtail, nutsedge, dallisgrass and much more through the use of high quality, high performance pre & post emergent herbicides.

Do I need to water after lawn treatments?

Watering recommendations depend on the product applied. In many cases irrigation or rainfall within a short period helps move nutrients into the soil. Irrigation practices should follow guidance provided by Oklahoma State University Extension lawn management resources. Which program do most homeowners choose?

We specialize in turning around poor performing lawns. As a result, many of our clients begin with a soil test and a 7-treatment improvement plan. On average, these clients typically spend 2-3 years at this level and then reduce the service intensity to our maintenance program which is designed to sustain your lawns current condition.

If you’re unsure, we can conduct a soil test to help match the program to your lawn.

What should my lawn actually look like during summer?

That depends on the program and the weather — and we’re upfront about both.

7-treatment improvement lawn plans typically hold better color, density, and weed suppression through summer stress through the additional inputs not featured in our maintenance plan scope of work.

5-treatment maintenance lawn care plans remain stable throughout the season. This plan assumes the hard work (soil test & corrections) has been completed and relies on a balance soil for peak performance. The healthier your soil, the better this plan performs!

Oklahoma summers are tough. Our goal is managed stress and recovery, not unrealistic perfection.

Are you spraying my entire lawn every visit?

Not always — and that’s a good thing.

Each visit is based on what your lawn actually needs at that moment. Some visits involve full applications, others are more targeted. Applying products only when they provide real value protects your lawn and avoids unnecessary inputs.

Less spraying does not mean less care.

How much work do I need to do as the homeowner?

Very little — but a few basics matter.

Consistent mowing, proper watering, and basic access on service days go a long way. We follow Oklahoma State University Extension guidance and design programs that work with normal homeowner routines, not against them.

You won’t be micromanaged or blamed for normal seasonal challenges.

What happens if weather throws off the schedule?

Weather is part of lawn care in Oklahoma.

If conditions aren’t right, we adjust timing so products work as intended. You don’t lose care — you gain better decisions. Programs are built around seasonal windows, not rigid calendar dates.

Is this safe for kids and pets?

Yes, when used as directed.

We use professional-grade products applied by a Certified Applicator, following all label and re-entry requirements. Once products are dry, normal activity can resume.

What makes Newell Services different from other lawn companies?

Your lawn isn’t handed off to rotating crews.

Every application is planned and applied by the same owner-operator and Certified Applicator who designed the program.

That means:
Better timing decisions. Consistent execution. Accountability from start to finish.

No subcontractors. No rushed routes. Just professional care done with intent.

How long should I stay off the lawn after treatment?

Most lawn applications dry quickly. Once the treated area has dried, normal lawn use can typically resume. Specific instructions may vary depending on the product applied.

Do lawn treatments work on large properties?

Yes. Professional turf management programs are commonly used on larger residential properties, estate lawns, and acreage homesites where consistent fertility and weed control are needed across larger turf areas.
